Domain Hosting

When it comes to domain hosting, there are many different options available, some of which many may not even know are there. In this section we will cover many of the web hosting options available to those new to domain hosting or just looking for a little more information on web hosting and domain hosting products.
There are several different types of domain hosting options including the ever-popular shared or virtual hosting plan such as that at GoDaddy. Also, a new domain hosting account can be a virtual dedicated server (aka virtual private server), server collocation as well as free web hosting options.
One of the most popular domain hosting methods is the shared or virtual domain hosting service.
With shared server domain hosting, many domain hosting accounts all share the same server in terms of space/memory on the server and more.
This allows domain owners to lower their expenses rather than have a server of their own. Not to mention all of the security benefits of shared hosting with very successful domain hosting companies.
With a dedicated virtual server, it is basically the same premise as that of the virtual shared server only without all of the other users on the same exact domain hosting server.
In some cases, the domain hosting client needs to have a LOT of space for their website and all that it entails and still wants to go through a fully-equipped domain hosting company with all of the services domain hosting companies can provide, in that case, maybe a virtual private server would be quite a benefit. In most cases, the shared server should do.
With all virtual domain hosting servers, the only downfall is that you do not have complete control over the server itself.
In addition to these types of domain hosting plans, there is also free web hosting.
These services can pose quite a risk, such as that of a free web hosting company going out of business and therefore deleting all of your hard work. That is always a risk.
Plus, you will most likely have to have their advertisements all over your website and if you don’t, well, then you will have to sign up for their premium domain hosting services that you could easily find anywhere.
This type of web hosting is basically virtual shared domain hosting only with lots of ads and no cost. The ads, however, may pose a little obstacle once you rally get your site up as well as search engines may not even list free web hosting sites in search results.
The basic idea with server collocation for domain hosting is that a domain owner may purchase a server of their own and pay “rent” to a server collocation provider who installs the server in their own operation center and gives the server owner their own IP address.
The advantage of server collocation is that the bandwidth gets shared as opposed to paying the large amounts of money for bandwidth overall.
